i was washing the dishes, listening to my ipod, enjoying the shuffling through of so many songs i love, when i found tears in my eyes as i heard these words:
remember when, the sound of little feet was the music we danced to week to week...
remember when, we said when we turn grey,
when the children grow up and move away,
we won't be sad -- we'll be glad
for all the life we've had...
i still struggle with so many things, with stopping to enjoy the moment instead of always hurrying on to the next thing or focusing on all the stuff that gets in the way. i need to make more of an effort to remember that this time with my children is speeding by faster than i realize.
when we look back, i want us all to remember the fun, the love, the time we spent together. i don't want my kids to only recall, "we sure had a clean bedroom all the time." or "mom always kept the house spotless."
tempus fugit, right?
the next song that came on got me again, a song about the horrific events of september 11, 2001:
have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
so many people seem to have forgotten.
how i love this great land we are so blessed to live in. i want my kids to feel that same pride and patriotism. last night in family home evening we talked about the upcoming july 4th holiday and why we celebrate it. we sang 'america the beautiful' and 'the national anthem' as our opening and closing songs; i was really proud that they know these great hymns.
i am so thankful for the blessings of being an American -- i get all sappy about it, which hasn't been very "cool" i guess, especially when i was a kid, but i don't care. i want my kids to have that same adoration for this wonderful country we live in.

life is so good. it's a miracle, really. even with all the trials and hardships and all the chaos going on in the world, life is awesome.

simple things, like joseph "helping" lindsey conduct family home evening, and seeing him fold his arms when it's time to pray, are a delight.

happiness is singing together when day is through
and happiness is those who sing with you
happiness is morning and evening, daytime and nighttime too
for happiness is anyone and anything at all
that's loved by you.
